This illustration serves as a visual narrative for Audric’s fighting journey throughout the last fifteen years. From being a state-level wrestler to a brown belt jiu jitsu instructor and practitioner, Audric has seamlessly transitioned into an undefeated 2-0 amateur MMA fighter. His unwavering commitment to becoming a better fighter extends beyond the mats, including his approach to fighting games and his health issues.

In the face of persistent back injuries, Audric turned to Street Fighter IV and began hosting community tournaments every week. He studied the technicalities of each character’s tools and matchups, practicing moves in the training room so he could fight challenging opponents. He found a way to embed his fight style into his characters Ryu and Evil Ryu, then dominated in Street Fighter V as the best Necalli player in San Diego.

Throughout every injury that forced him off the mats, he refused to stop training. He would consistently push through his tedious exercises for recovery, show up to watch jiu jitsu classes, read and study what’s available online, and drill if it was safe to do so. By the time his body was strong enough to return to the mats, he was rolling with his teammates as if he never left.

Although Audric has since retired from playing fighting games and doing jiu jitsu full-time, these bittersweet chapters are just a few examples of how hard he’s willing to fight even when dealt bad cards.

Each character on this shirt represents Audric’s milestones and also the obstacles that he has overcome throughout the years. My hope is that whenever Audric sees this piece, he is reminded of how far he’s come and it fuels him to keep pursuing his passions, even as they take new forms in life.
